চিত্রপরিচালক তারেক মাসুদ পরিচালিত ‘মাটির ময়না’ তাঁর প্রথম পূর্ণদৈর্ঘ্যের ছবি। এটি কান চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবে প্রদর্শিত প্রথম বাংলাদেশী ছবি। এটি ২০০২ সালে ডিরেক্টরস ফোর্টনাইট নামক অধ্যায়ে প্রদর্শিত হয়। সিনেমাটি ভূষিত হয় FIPRESCI পুরস্কারে।

Aranya Sarkar is a student of Jadavpur University and currently residing in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was first introduced to world cinema through the lens of Satyajit Ray. Since his later schooldays, he has been an avid analyser of the works of Ray and Mrinal Sen. However, it was his introduction to the life and works of Ritwik Ghatak that changed his outlook towards film viewing, and brought him close to the harsh realities and struggles of life, portrayed in the Raw films of Ghatak. Besides, having both his paternal and maternal roots deep in Bangladesh, he can truly understand the agony of a man who was totally destroyed due to the Partition of his homeland, the Partition of Bengal. His first work, "মাটির ময়না- বাংলা ও বাঙ্গালির আত্মকথা" is an analysis of the beautiful Bangladeshi Movie, "মাটির ময়না" by Late filmmaker Tareque Masud. He is currently undergoing a study on the Baul culture of Rural Bengal and is aiming towards changing the average urban understanding of the concept of Lalon and Baulism.
